PRB: Zetadocs PDF print spooling is slow
This Zetadocs PDF technical note applies to:
- Zetadocs PDF version 1.0, 1.1
After printing to the Zetadocs PDF printer, it may take some time for the Zetadocs PDF client to start up. This is more noticable when printing documents with many pages or containing large graphic objects.
In version 1.0, if you open the Zetadocs PDF printer queue, you will see the document spooling slowly, page by page.
In version 1.1, a print progress window is displayed which shows print progress page by page.
The speed of printing can be slowed due to a variety of reasons, including:
- anti-virus program
- printing resolution
- processor speed
- available system memory
If you are running an anti-virus program, you can prevent it from monitoring the output from the Zetadocs PDF printer driver to speed up printing. You can do this in the following ways:
- Exclude the printer output directory from being monitored by the anti-virus program. This is usually the user's temporary directory. You can find the path by going into the Zetadocs PDF printer properties, and clicking on the " Printing Preferences" button on the General tab. Then select the " Filename Generation" tab and copy the path from the " Output Directory" field.
- Exclude the following file groups from being monitored by the anti-virus program: *.EMF, *.GRP, *.TXT.
You can reduce the printing resolution by going into the Zetadocs PDF printing properties, clicking the " Printing Preferences" button on the General tab, and then modifying the Resolution in the drop-down box. By default the resolution is 300x300dpi, you can reduce this to 200x200 or 100x100. This may be acceptable for screen viewing of PDFs but note that this will affect the final print quality of the PDF.
If you are running version 1.0, then upgrade to version 1.1 as this will give user feedback during printing.
This has been identified by Equisys as an issue with the software versions given above.
