PRB: Unable to start Zetadocs Server

This Zetafax technical note applies to:

  • Zetadocs Server 1.0 and later


When attempting to start or restart the Zetadocs Document Converter service, it does not appear to be enabled, and fails to start.  Any documents placed in the monitored folders are not converted.

This can happen when the monitored folder is stored on a Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 machine with User Account Control (UAC) turned on.


The problem is caused because UAC will not allow any file operations from the program files folder without elevated security permissions.


There are two solutions to this problem:

   1. Move the monitored folder to a location that is not controlled by UAC.

   2. Turn off UAC on the computer that the monitored folders are stored on.

This has been identified by Equisys as a problem with the software versions given above.
