PRB: Delay before fax wizard appears when printing to the Zetafax Printer on 64 bit systems

ID: ZTN1877

This Zetafax technical note applies to:

  • Zetafax Client on 64 bit machines.

When printing to the Zetafax Printer, a delay of up to 10 seconds may occur on certain 64 bit systems. Clicking OK on the dialog will subsequently run the Zetafax Client.

This is due to an issue in the Zetafax Client when attempting to detect a certain type of printing application.

To resolve this issue you need to make an addition to your system registry.

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Equisys cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved.

  • Browse to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Equisys\ZETAFAX registry key.
  • Add a DWORD value named ‘CrystalDetectDisable’ to this key, and set the value data to 1.
  • Set ‘OffsetLock’ to have a value data of 0.

  • For information about how to edit the registry, view the " Changing Keys and Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE) or the " Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and " Edit Registry Data" Help topics in REGEDT32.EXE.
  • Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT or Windows 2000, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD).

This behaviour was corrected using the above mentioned fix.
