HOWTO: Install the Zetadocs Archive with Microsoft SQL Server

ID: ZTN4381

This Zetadocs technical note applies to:

  • Zetadocs Archive Service
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2014

This article describes how to install the Zetadocs Archive Service with Microsoft SQL Server instead of the default Microsoft SQL Server Express edition.

More information

The Zetadocs Archive Service installer looks for the existence of a SQL instance by the name of ZETADOCS. If it finds one it will attempt to install the Zetadocs Archive database into that instance, otherwise it will install Microsoft SQL Server Express and create an instance called ZETADOCS.

In order to install the Zetadocs Archive Service with Microsoft SQL Server, an instance called ZETADOCS must first be created using the Microsoft SQL Server installation media ahead of running the Zetadocs Archive Service installer.

The following Microsoft article explains this procedure to create a new SQL instance:

To install Zetadocs Archive with existing Microsoft SQL Server follow the following steps:

  1. Select the desired version of SQL Server before proceeding and then make sure the name of the instance is ZETADOCS in capital letters. NOTE: When creating the ZETADOCS instance make sure that the following option is selected for authentication

  1. After the installation is complete verify there is a new service in the list of Windows services for the newly created instance (ZETADOCS should be specified as the name of the service).
  2. Now when the Zetadocs Archive Service installer is executed it will proceed to install the database on the existing ZETADOCS SQL instance. (NOTE: Please be aware that running this step before running the steps above will cause the installation to create a new instance of SQL Express).
