HOWTO: Disabling notifications from Zetafax in Outlook

This Zetafax technical note applies to:

• Zetafax 7 and later
• Zetafax Connector for Exchange 5.5
• Zetafax Connector for Exchange 2000
• Zetafax Connector for Exchange 2003

Summary

When using Zetafax with the email gateway and Exchange, notification messages are passed to Outlook to inform the user of the status of a sent fax. This allows users to monitor the progress of their faxes without having to check the Zetafax Server or use the Zetafax Client.

However, there may be circumstances where users want to disable these notifications. For example, if users only send large fax shots from Outlook rather than individual emails, they may prefer not to receive notification messages for every sent fax.

The following procedure explains how to disable notifications. Please note that these instructions disable all notifications for all users.

1. On the Zetafax Server, open SETUP.INI in Zfax\SYSTEM\Z-DB, where Zfax is the path to the Zetafax root folder (e.g. C:\Program Files\Zetafax Server).
2. Add the following line to the [OPTIONS] section of SETUP.INI:

ExchangeQStatus: NO

3. Save SETUP.INI.

WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious, system-wide problems that may require you to reinstall Windows to correct them, so please exercise caution when doing so.

4. On the Exchange Server where the Zetafax connector is installed, open the Registry Editor and browse to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ZFConnector\

5. Check if there is a value called QStatus in this key. If not, add it using the following process:

a.            With the ZFConnector key selected in the left-hand pane, go to the Edit menu, and then click on New, DWORD Value.

b.            Call the new value QStatus.

6. Set the value of the QStatus item to 0 (zero).
7. Restart the Zetafax Server software and the Exchange connector service.
