PRB: Unable to reinstall Zetafax connector after uninstall

This Zetafax technical note applies to:

  • Zetafax 7.00.0.26 Exchange connector and later

Symptom

After uninstalling the Zetafax connector, the install program reports the previous version is still installed; you are then unable to reinstall it.

Cause

One of the Zetafax connector programs is in use by Microsoft Exchange, and the uninstall program has not been able to remove it. The Exchange server has been restarted as prompted after uninstall, but the process to remove the program on reboot has failed.

Resolution

Use EXPLORER.EXE to navigate to \exchsrvr\ADDRESS\FAX\I386\ where 'exchsrvr' is the name of the directory where the Exchange server program files are installed. Rename ZFPROXY.DLL to ZFPROXY.DLL.OLD. Navigate to \exchsrvr\CONNECT\ZETAFAX\ and rename ZFCONNECTOR.EXE to ZFCONNECTOR.EXE.OLD. Rerun the Zetafax connector installation.

Status

This has been identified by Equisys as a problem with the software versions given above.
