PRB: Sending a fax using the Mail Rendering Subsystem fails on Windows 2008 R2

ID: ZTN1759

This Zetafax technical note applies to:

  • Zetafax 2009 with Platform Feature Pack and above on Windows Server 2008 R2 systems.

When sending a fax with attachments with the Mail Rendering Subsystem enabled on the fax server on Windows Server 2008 R2, the fax fails to send and times out due to a rendering error.

This problem occurs because User Account Control is enabled.  In order for the Zetafax Server to use Mail Rendering Subsystem on Windows Server 2008 R2, User Account Control must be disabled.

To disable User Account Control:

  1. Click the “Start” menu.
  2. Select the user’s profile picture portrait in the top right corner of the “Start” menu.
  3. On the window that appears, click “Change User Account Control settings”.
  4. On the window that appears, move the slider to the bottom, so that “Never notify” is selected.
  5. Reboot the computer as necessary.

This has been identified by Equisys as a problem with the software versions given above.
