PRB: Error message when trying to connect the Zetafax Client to the Zetafax Server on startup

This Zetafax technical note applies to:

  • Zetafax 2010 and later

Symptom

When setting up the server location settings from the Zetafax Client login screen an error message is displayed saying “Cannot read from file: ” followed by the shared folder path entered.

Cause

To connect to the server, the Zetafax Client needs access to the shared folders on the server.  This access can be blocked by windows firewall.

To access the shared folder on the server system from client, ‘file and printer sharing’ should be enabled in the exceptions list of Windows firewall on the server system.

Resolution

Steps to enable the ‘file and printer sharing’ option:

1.      From start menu launch the control panel and select Windows firewall.

2.      Enable ‘File and sharing’ in the Exceptions list from Windows firewall settings.

  Status

This has been identified by Equisys as a problem with the software versions given above.
