FIX: Server will not shut down when it contains a PCI-e card on 64 bit operating system

Print

ZTN1798

ID: ZTN1798

This Zetafax technical note applies to:

  • Zetafax 9.1 and later

Symptom

With a TR1034 PCI Express you will see the following error on Power Down: (NMI: Parity Check/Memory Parity Error) resulting in a Blue Screen. Or the server will simply refuse to power down.

Cause

The Brooktrout board uses a TI PCIe-bridge which requires a workaround due to a problem " with the PCIe base 1.0a specification with regards to exiting L1 state" . A registry change is needed to keep the board in the D0 state on shutdown, not the low-power D3 state.

Resolution

  • Create a new registry entry in the system
  • Navigate to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\pci]
  • Create a new key called Parameters (if it does not already exist).
  • Create a new String Value called " 104C8231" .
  • Enter this into the value exactly:
    hex:00,00,00,20,00,00,00,00
  • Exit out of the registry. The system should function normally.

Status

This is a known issue by Dialogic for PCI Express boards on 64bit systems.
