PRB: Zetafax reports ".Please exit and run the BTUpdateUtility.exe.." when trying to add a Brooktrout board

This Zetafax technical note applies to:

  • Zetafax Version 9 and later


When trying to add a Brooktrout board to Zetafax using the device configuration utility, you receive the following error message: "A Brooktrout driver upgrade is required. Please exit and run the BTUpdateUtility.exe" from the < Zetafax Server> \server folder"


The Brooktrout board's drivers have not been installed correctly


You need to reinstall the drivers for the board.

  1. Right click My Computer and select properties
  2. Select the Hardware tab and then open the Device Manager
  3. Find the Brooktrout Board listed and double click the icon to open the properties
  4. Select the Drivers tab
  5. Press the Update Drivers button
  6. A Hardware Update Wizard is displayed, you need to select "Install from a list or specific location"
  7. Select "Search for best driver in these locations"
  8. Press the browse button and navigate to C:\Program Files\ZetafaxServer\SERVER\Boston
  9. You may be prompted with a dialogue box warning about the security of this driver, select 'Continue anyway'
  10. When the Wizard has completed the installation, select Finish.

Once you have completed the steps above you will be able to add the Brooktrout to the Zetafax Configuration Console.


This has been identified by Equisys as a problem with the software versions given above.
