Zetafax Server

To support over 10 users, a server operating system is required (e.g. Windows Server 2008 R2).
To support over 25 users, multiple fax lines or when using the Email Gateway, we recommend you use a dedicated fax server.

Zetafax SMTP Server

The Zetafax SMTP Server is compliant with the SMTP/POP3 Internet email protocols. These SMTP email servers have been tested and verified by Equisys:

  • Exchange 2003, 2007 & 2010*
  • Qualcomm Eudora WorldMail Sever v2.0
  • PostOffice Software.Com
  • Sendmail for UNIX

*Note: Zetafax has native integration with Exchange using Exchange connectors, rather than the SMTP Server. The Exchange connectors also provide forms and extensions enabling advanced functionality within Microsoft Outlook. For information on how to install and configure the Zetafax Email Gateway for Microsoft Exchange, refer to the Zetafax Configuration online help.

The Zetafax SMTP Server supports these POP3 clients:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2003, 2007 & 2010
  • Microsoft Outlook Express 5 and 6

Fax Devices

  • Zetafax supports these fax devices:
    • Dialogic/Brooktrout intelligent fax boards (see below)
    • SR140 (FoIP) when purchased as part of the Zetafax Connector
    • Most Class 1, Class 2, Class 2.0 and Class 2.1 fax modems
    • Most Active CAPI 2.0 ISDN controllers (supporting T.30 protocol)
    • Divasoft IP control call software (combined with phone system which supports IP) withdrawn by manufacturer, support will be withdrawn in the near future.
  • Zetafax supports these fax types:
    • Standard mode (200x100 dpi), Fine mode (200x200 dpi)
    • Group 3 Fax

Supported Brooktrout/Dialogic Boards

Zetafax Server provides support for a variety of Brooktrout and Dialogic intelligent fax boards. The type of board that you choose should be based upon the Operating System that you install the Zetafax Server on and also on your faxing requirements. What is E1/T1?

 E1/T1 refers to the type of line that is attached to the Brooktrout board. T1 lines are commonly found in the USA, and can be either T1-ISDN or T1-Robbed-bit. E1 lines are ISDN. Both of these types of line are also referred to as PRI (Primary Rate ISDN)

Please note that the following board combination is not supported on the same machine:

  • Trufax boards and TR1034 boards

Software updates may be required before this board functions correctly on the specified Operating System.


Scanners and Printers

Zetafax supports these scanners and printers:

  • TWAIN compatible scanners
  • Hewlett Packard 8100C Digital Sender*
  • Hewlett Packard 9100 Digital Sender
  • Hewlett Packard Network ScanJet 5
  • Windows compatible graphics printers

*Only supported with the SMTP Server.


File formats

  • Most graphics file formats (including ASCII, BMP, DCX, EPS bitmaps, Epson FX and LQ series, GIF, JPEG, PCX, PICT, Targa, and TIFF) can be submitted to the Zetafax Server and sent as faxes.
  • As an option, you can license the Zetafax Document Conversion add-on. It allows the Zetafax Server to convert over 225 document file types into fax format, without access to the authoring application.
  • To send any other file format as a fax, you can print from the application that created it.
