Dynamics 365 Business Central remains the choice for many cloud customers and their partners for its ability to be tailored to meet individual requirements.

By now the benefits of the new extensibility model using Extensions over base app customizations is well understood. The primary benefit is always being on the latest version of an evergreen service.

Zetadocs Delivery and Zetadocs Capture have always been customizable with their Plus editions from the early days of Navision using code customization like the rest of NAV. The main difference with Zetadocs was a more upgradable model of those modifications, as they were made within special Zetadocs code units specifically designed for that purpose. Essentially it was the best we could do within the C/AL and C/SIDE customization model, as it allowed us to patch our Zetadocs base application code units without breaking your modifications.


We’ve now migrated these Zetadocs customized code units to a set of Events and Methods within the Zetadocs Delivery and Zetadocs Capture Extension for Business Central. Subscribing to these Events with your own per tenant extensions allows you to achieve these same benefits as before. These Events will feel familiar but with the added benefit that your customizations are now future-proof. They’ll continue to work even when the Business Central base application or the Zetadocs extension is updated, meaning you can finally say goodbye to all those version upgrade merge headaches.

The Zetadocs Delivery and Zetadocs Capture Extensions SDK is fully documented so that you can understand which Events and Methods are available. The SDK includes usage examples for the common Zetadocs point solutions and information on how to create per tenant extensions - everything you'd expect from an SDK.

Taking the pain out of paper

The need to process paper documents remain a large part of many finance teams’ daily tasks today. Digitally transforming this area of the business requires a bit more thought when you’ve moved your finance system to the cloud, but the paper and scanners remain on premises.

This update of the Extension for Business Central adds the multi-user Document Queues feature to Zetadocs Capture Essentials for the processing of paper documents which still arrive by post. The Zetadocs Server installed on premises monitors the network folders setup for these document queues and converts those documents into PDF/A format before uploading those files to their respective Zetadocs Document Queues library in SharePoint Online.


Zetadocs Capture Essentials includes two built-in document queues that communicate with these SharePoint-based libraries: one for the processing of standard sales documents and the other for the processing of standard purchase document types. These queues allow the finance team to link these scanned paper documents to their respective Business Central records, or even create the Business Central record if it does not yet exist.

Once linked, the scanned document is removed from the document library and stored securely in the SharePoint online archive, according to the configurable folder structure. The scanned documents are then available to view directly from the archive in SharePoint for those without access to Business Central and listed alongside its Business Central record in the Zetadocs Documents FactBox for those with access.

Customers that have custom queue requirements, or a need to process higher volumes of documents, can upgrade to Zetadocs Capture Plus for background automation and queue processing using barcodes.

Adding Zetadocs to other pages

Zetadocs adds the Documents FactBox and the Zetadocs Actions to standard Business Central sales and purchases pages, listed here in Zetadocs Page Extensions. This makes it simple for customers to start using Zetadocs Delivery and Zetadocs Capture from the get-go for the most popular areas of Business Central, without the need for any customization with per tenant page extensions.


What about those areas of Business Central that are not setup as standard? Well, in this release of the Extension for Business Central, we’ve provided instructions for you or your reseller to add the Zetadocs Actions and Zetadocs Documents FactBox to other Business Central pages so that you can both send and capture documents with these Business Central records.

This functionality is available to both Essentials edition customers and Plus edition customers.

Simplifying small changes

We’ve also made good progress in this release on making some modifications configurable that previously required custom code for personalization.


The email attachment file name sent using Zetadocs Delivery is now a configurable setting that allows you to personalize it with up to two Business Central fields from the table the report is based on. 

A new Output file name section has been added to the Zetadocs Report Settings page to set this up when what comes out the box is not personal enough.

Available now

The Zetadocs Delivery and Zetadocs Capture Extension for Business Central is available now in AppSource for Business Central cloud deployments, and available for download for Business Central when deployed on premises.

Existing Zetadocs customers on an active support plan wishing to upgrade to the Extension for Business Central can do so at no extra software charge. Please get in touch with your Dynamics partner or email for more details.
