This Zetadocs technical note applies to:
- All versions of the Zetadocs extension.
Summary
This technote outlines the maximum supported document sizes for customers using barcode detection and AP Automation. Documents exceeding these limits cannot be processed and will be automatically moved to the _failedProcessing folder in SharePoint.
More information
Zetadocs allows you to upload documents into SharePoint libraries for processing within Business Central. Documents can be processed in two ways:
-
Barcode detection and splitting – identifies barcodes in PDFs and splits them into separate files.
-
AP Automation (Document Intelligence) – extracts invoice data and performs matching to purchase orders.
To ensure reliable and consistent performance, maximum page count limits apply to each type of processing:
If a document exceeds the limits for the selected processing method:
-
It will not be processed.
-
It will be moved automatically into the _failedProcessing folder in the same SharePoint queue.
-
The file will appear as failed when the queue is refreshed in Business Central.
To avoid issues, large documents should be split or reduced in size before upload.
Guidance
Large or high-resolution PDF files take significantly longer to process. Below are recommendations to help ensure your documents fall within supported limits and process efficiently.
Reduce scan resolution
Scanning at higher DPI increases overall file size.
-
Recommended scan resolution: 200–300 DPI
-
Avoid scanning at 600 DPI or higher unless required for legal or archival reasons
-
Use black and white or greyscale when colour is not needed
This can dramatically reduce processing time and file size.
Remove unnecessary pages
Many multi-page documents contain pages that do not need processing for example:
-
Long itemised sections of phone bills
-
Terms and conditions pages
-
Duplicated or blank pages
-
Background/scanned cover sheets
Trimming these pages before uploading reduces:
Split large documents before upload
For documents over the upper limits:
Following the guidance above will help ensure documents process reliably and efficiently.
