ID: ZTN1471

This Zetafax technical note applies to:

  • Zetafax server version 9.1

Symptom

The Brooktrout devices fail to initialise when starting the Zetafax server. The server reports error messages similar to the ones below

SYSMAN     - (E) - Unknown device type BTB in INI file

Cause

This happens when a TR1034 fax card is added to an existing Zetafax system and then the system is updated to Zetafax 9.1. During the upgrade process to 9.1 the appropriate setting is not added the Zetafax configuration file SETUP.INI.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, work though the following steps.

  1. Open zfax\SYSTEM\Z-DB\SETUP.INI with NOTEPAD or similar (where zfax is the name of the root Zetafax server program folder, usually \Program Files\Zetafax Server).
  2. Locate the line:
  3. Device: BTA  "DEVBTA.EXE"    "Brooktrout TR114 board"      NNRNRN

  4. Add the following line just below it.
  5. Device: BTB  "DEVBTB.EXE"    "Brooktrout TR1034 board"     NNRNRN

  6. SETUP.INI should now look as follows:
  7. Device: BTA  "DEVBTA.EXE"    "Brooktrout TR114 board"      NNRNRN

Device: BTB  "DEVBTB.EXE"    "Brooktrout TR1034 board"     NNRNRN

  8. Save the file.

Start up the Zetafax server; it will initialise the card correctly.

Status

This has been identified by Equisys as a problem with the software versions given above.
