PRB: License code is not requested when upgrading Zetafax Server and the server is unable to start

This Zetafax technical note applies to:

  • Zetafax 2008 and below

Symptom

When upgrading from Zetafax 2008 or earlier to Zetafax 2012, the installation completes, but there is no prompt for an upgrade code when running the Zetafax Configuration, and Zetafax Server cannot start. On clicking Help > About in the Zetafax Configuration, the version number reports a version lower than 16.0.950.

Cause

Some server files are not updated the first time the installer is run, thus causing an inconsistency between dependent files. These files are:

  • ShareSetup.dll
  • ZFSETUP.EXE

The files reside in the < ZFAX> \SERVER folder, where < ZFAX> is the path to the Zetafax Server installation. The correct file versions should be 16.0.950.

Resolution

Running the Zetafax Server installation in repair mode twice will update the affected server files and produce a fully updated Zetafax Server system.

Status

This has been identified by Equisys as a problem with the software versions given above.
