PRB: DEVSMS reports Mobile service error - Invalid mandatory information

Print

ZTN2004

ID: ZTN2004

This Zetalink technical note applies to:

  • Zetalink version 1.0

Symptom

On starting the communications server (Zetafax) the SMS device controller (DEVSMS) will report 'Mobile service error - Invalid mandatory information'.

Cause

In some cases the GSM modem/phone requires the SMS service centre number to be entered in canonical ('+44.0) format. Therefore if the service centre number has been entered as '02071234567' it will give the above error.

Resolution

Launch the Zetafax configuration program (Start|Programs|Zetafax). Expand the Zetafax node and select 'Devices', double-click on the SMS device controller reporting the problem in the right hand pane. You will be presented with a 'Device Options.' dialog; modify the service centre field so that the number is in the canonical format, e.g. change '02071234567' to read '+442071234567'.

Status

This has been identified by Equisys as a problem with the software versions given above.
